Half Year 2020 Discovery Ltd Earnings Call Transcript
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Chris Gilmour from the Investment Analyst Society. And on behalf of the Society, it gives me great pleasure to welcome Discovery management here today to present their interim results to 31st December 2019. Discovery has been getting more than its fair share of bad press recently. But as Oscar Wilde famously said, "There's only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about." This is a company that's taken its homegrown technology to far-flung corners of the earth and has, as possible, it's truly a South African icon. And if you take the time to sit down and analyze what's going on and where it's going, you'll realize that it's a leader and not a follower.
Some years ago, my dear wife interviewed Adrian Gore and wrote a story about him. One of the issues that he raised, and I'm paraphrasing here, is that in comparing the attitude of Chinese people with that of South Africans.
