On Friday Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) clarified that its OpenAI collaboration allows it the flexibility for including several artificial intelligence models into its products. Based on reports, the company is assessing non-OpenAI and in-house models for Copilot products.

"Our agreement lets us go beyond fine-tuning and customizing OpenAI's models and intellectual property to meet our needs," an OpenAI official told Seeking Alpha.

Earlier reports suggested Microsoft is exploring options to enhance cost-effectiveness and performance for enterprise clients while potentially reducing its reliance on OpenAI's technology.

Microsoft's integration of AI models has gained attention for reshaping its Office 365 suite with Copilot. The software aims to increase productivity through advanced automation and content generation features.

Shares of Microsoft were down 0.28% in premarket trading on Friday.
