Hyundai Motor is reportedly negotiating with Samsung Electronics to produce autonomous driving chips. Hyundai aims to leverage Samsung's automotive semiconductor production line, which utilizes a 5-nanometer "SF5A" process, for mass production of its self-developed chips.
Securing Hyundai as a major client could strengthen Samsung's position in the autonomous chip market, projected to grow to $29 billion by 2030. This partnership could also pave the way for Samsung to receive more large-scale orders.
Hyundai plans to establish a stable domestic supply chain for autonomous driving semiconductors and is expected to launch vehicles equipped with these proprietary chips by 2026.
