Microsoft has integrated both in-house and third-party AI models into its flagship AI product, 365 Copilot. This move signifies a shift away from sole reliance on OpenAI's AI models. Previously, Microsoft used OpenAI's GPT-4 model exclusively when it launched 365 Copilot for enterprise customers in March of last year. However, sources report that due to cost and risk considerations, Microsoft has added other AI models, including its own Phi-4, to the new version of 365 Copilot. This change aims to enhance the speed and cost-effectiveness of 365 Copilot.
A Microsoft spokesperson reaffirmed OpenAI's status as a partner in AI products but mentioned the company's strategy to incorporate diverse AI computational models periodically.
