Honda and Nissan Announce Merger Plans with New Holding Company

Japanese automakers Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. have announced a memorandum of understanding to begin merger negotiations. The plan involves establishing a new holding company where both Honda and Nissan will operate as subsidiaries. Honda will take a leading role, holding a majority of the board seats.

The companies aim to finalize the merger agreement by June 2025, with Honda nominating more than half of the board members, including the CEO. The new holding company is expected to be listed by August 2026, at which point both Honda and Nissan will be delisted.
