Stellantis (STLA, Financial) is set to submit a long-term production plan to the Italian government, which includes assigning a new mass-market model to one of its Italian plants. The Italian Industry Minister, Adolfo Urso, will lead a meeting with the automaker, suppliers, and unions to reach an agreement aimed at revitalizing Italy's auto manufacturing sector.
The new model will be produced either at the Pomigliano d'Arco plant near Naples or at a facility south of Rome in Cassino. The plan also includes increasing hybrid vehicle production in Italy, as full electric vehicle production is expected to remain limited in the coming years. Relations between Stellantis and the Italian government have improved following the sudden resignation of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.
