The U.S. government is set to authorize Alphabet's (GOOGL, Financial) Google and Microsoft (MSFT) as global access gatekeepers for artificial intelligence (AI), restricting other nations from using AI chips via cloud services. This regulation is expected to be implemented soon, requiring companies with gatekeeper status to report key data to the government and prohibiting unauthorized AI chip use by China. Additionally, companies without this status must secure U.S. permission before acquiring AI chips from Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Nineteen countries, such as the Netherlands and Japan, will be exempt from these AI chip supply restrictions.
