Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) (TSM) is set to complete its first chip manufacturing plant in Arizona, USA, as scheduled. The facility is currently in trial production, creating sample chips for customer verification. Apple (AAPL, Financial) is identified as the plant's largest customer.
The factory spans 3.5 million square feet, with an initially announced investment of $12 billion. TSMC had aimed to produce 5-nanometer chips by the end of 2024 but has now upgraded to producing more advanced chips. The plant will produce 4-nanometer chips at a rate of 20,000 wafers per month.
