According to a recent company announcement, Apple (AAPL, Financial) has invested over £18 billion in the UK in investment over £2019, doubling the size of its engineering teams and supporting around 550,000 jobs. The jobs range from direct employment to supply chain to iOS app economy.

UK-based teams from the tech giant are working on things like Siri, Private Cloud computing, silicon engineering, and services like Apple Music, and Apple TV+. Users in London, Cambridge, and other parts of the world are also experiencing these breakthrough innovations at Apple's London, Cambridge, and other regional offices, Apple said. Apple has also tripled the UK content that Apple TV+ has put out over the last two years.

“As we continue our work to solve some of the world's greatest challenges, we are thrilled to be growing our Apple teams here, and to continue driving this support for the extraordinary innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs across this region who are pushing the boundaries of technology in so many ways,” said CEO Tim Cook.

Apple's expansion is threatened by the law. A class action lawsuit from a UK court, liable for being approved by the Competition Appeal Tribunal, claims Apple has a monopoly over app distribution on iOS devices and charges way too much in fees. Extending compensation up to £785 million to 13,000 app developers is a possibility with the case.

Apple's UK developer community is still the biggest in Europe with over £9bn generated from the App Store since it launched in 2008.
