According to reports, TSMC (TSM, Financial) plans to start mass production of 2nm chips next year. The company is currently conducting trial production at its Hsinchu factory in Taiwan, achieving a yield rate exceeding 60%. Typically, a yield rate of 70% or higher is required to begin large-scale production. Analysts predict that TSMC could commence mass production of 2nm chips next year based on current yield rates.
The market expects Apple's (AAPL) upcoming iPhone 17 series to still use TSMC's 3nm A19/Pro processors. The first Apple product with a 2nm chip might be the iPad Pro M5, expected by the end of 2025, and the first iPhone with a 2nm processor is anticipated to be the iPhone 19 series, slated for 2026.
