HSBC Holdings has announced a series of management changes as part of its ongoing executive team restructuring under the new leadership of CEO Georges Elhedery. The bank's Chief Sustainability Officer, Celine Herweijer, will be stepping down at the end of the year. Julian Wentzel, currently the head of Global Banking for the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, will temporarily assume her responsibilities. This role will no longer report directly to the CEO.
Herweijer joined HSBC three years ago and played a pivotal role in shaping the bank's net-zero emissions strategy. Earlier this year, she oversaw the development and release of HSBC's transformation plan, one of the first of its kind from a major bank. She expressed her belief in HSBC's potential to significantly impact financing for transformation and wished Georges and the team success in their future endeavors.
Additionally, HSBC announced that Selim Kervanci, the current CEO of its Turkish operations, will be appointed as the head of the Middle East region, pending regulatory approval. He will report to Surendra Rosha and Liao Yijian, the co-CEOs of HSBC's Asia and Middle East operations.
