Stellantis N.V. (STLA, Financials) delayed the launching of its Ram all-electric pickup truck to the first half of 2025 due to quality checks due to a hectic EV deployment timetable. CEO Carlos Tavares announced during a news conference.
Originally intending to introduce the Ram 1500 REV in the fourth quarter of 2024, the carmaker is also preparing to unveil the Ramcharger in the first quarter of 2025; additional forthcoming electric vehicles include the Jeep Wagoneer S. and the Dodge Charger Daytona.
“We are just facing a very significant amount of workload, and we want to be very prudent in the way we validate the products,” Tavares said. “It's better to take a few weeks more to validate properly than to rush and make mistakes in terms of quality.”
The delay comes after Stellantis unveiled their new STLA Frame platform, which is meant for SUVs, light commercial vehicles, and big pickup trucks. The platform will accommodate range-extended EVs, battery-electric vehicles, other propulsion systems, and internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen versions.
“We look forward to seeing it come to life in our upcoming product blitz on Jeep and Ram,” Tavares added.
Part of Stellantis' larger plan to broaden its EV range while keeping flexibility in propulsion choices are the STLA Frame cars. The platform is being positioned by the corporation as a pillar for its next products in the markets of hybrid and electric cars.
