Tesla (TSLA, Financial) has announced and subsequently recalled 2,400 Cybertruck pickups in the United States due to a significant issue with the drive inverter. The flaw may decrease torque output, causing a sudden loss of power when the accelerator pedal is applied, thus increasing the likelihood of an accident. This recall marks the sixth for the Cybertruck in 2024.
The affected vehicles were manufactured up until July 30, and the faulty inverters will be replaced with upgraded components. While Tesla has not reported any crashes or injuries due to this issue, the company has acknowledged five warranty claims. The new parts will be installed starting December 9, although Tesla has already been using the updated components in production since July.
This recall follows several others earlier this year, including a significant recall in September, which affected 27,000 Cybertrucks over delayed rearview camera feed issues that could compromise driver visibility. Tesla is aiming to revitalize its electric vehicle sales with the Cybertruck model, which has been under heavy investor scrutiny due to the high development costs and production delays. Despite these challenges, the company continues to address production and safety concerns.
