The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Tesla (TSLA, Financial) will recall 2,431 of its 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. The recall addresses a fault in the drive inverter that could lead to a loss of driving power, affecting vehicle propulsion and increasing crash risk.
This issue pertains to certain 2024 Cybertruck units produced between early November 2023 and late July 2024. These models feature drive inverters equipped with or previously equipped with metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET). If the inverter fails to generate torque, drivers cannot use the accelerator pedal effectively.
Starting December 9, or shortly thereafter, Tesla will offer free replacement of the defective drive inverters with functional MOSFET components. Prior to this, there have already been five separate recalls for the Cybertruck earlier this year.
