The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement reported significant disruptions in oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico due to Hurricane Rafael. Over 23% of the region's oil production and 10% of its natural gas output have been halted.

Energy companies, including BP (BP, Financial), Chevron, Equinor, and Shell, have evacuated personnel from numerous offshore platforms. This evacuation has resulted in the suspension of daily production totaling 408,830 barrels of oil and nearly 201 million cubic feet of natural gas.

According to estimates from Earth Science Associates, the hurricane is expected to reduce U.S. offshore oil production by approximately 2 million barrels and decrease natural gas output by 1.1 billion cubic feet.
