Apple (AAPL, Financial) has officially halted its autonomous vehicle testing program in California. The company's request led the California Department of Motor Vehicles to revoke Apple's permit for testing self-driving cars on public roads. Initially issued in 2017, the permit allowed Apple to test vehicles with safety drivers until April 30, 2025.

Apple has submitted a formal confirmation to cancel the permit, and the department responded on September 25, stating that the permit would be revoked on September 27. This development marks another setback for Apple's Project Titan, the tech giant's autonomous vehicle initiative.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Apple delayed the launch of its self-driving car and downgraded the vehicle's autonomous capabilities from Level 4 to Level 2+.
