Buffet Indicator & the SP500

I just signed up for Guru Focus's 7-day trial. I've tried a lot of sights, and this is really nice. I was looking through the education section and it talked about the Buffet indicator and an augmented version of the indicator. In both indicators it references the Willshire 5000 to get a value of the total market value which is at 41.27 trillion. The SP500's total market value sits at 37.7 trillion. 3.57 trillion dollars are made up of 4500 other stocks outside of the SP500. If the SP500 has a larger impact on the overall economy, why wouldn't you use the SP500? It seems by using all 5000 companies you dilute your ratio. Some of those 4500 companies maybe nefarious shell companies used to hide money.
